The Baltic Sea Philosophy Essay Competition was first launched in Finland in 2003 as an idea by Pekka Elo, a member of the Board for the Development of Philosophy and Ethics Education. Recognizing the benefits of handling similar-purpose events together and in cooperation, Elo turned this event into a preparatory phase for the World Philosophical Olympiad. It is a philosophical composition event for high school students organized with the help of UNESCO ASPnet of Finland, the Finnish Association of Teachers of Philosophy and Ethics, the Finnish Philosophical Association and the Association of Women and Feminist Philosophers in Finland, the Norwegian High School Philosophy Association. As an IPO founder country, Turkey received an invitation for the first time in 2011.
This year, our student from Private Izmir Bilfen Science High School participated in the competition on October 10, 2022. This year's competition was attended by 285 entries from 13 countries, and Deniz Karlıdağ, one of our 11th grade students of Science High School, was entitled to receive an honorary award. Documenting success in international events, especially in the field of philosophy, is very effective in gaining admission from international universities. Our students participating will be able to use their certificates in their international university preferences by receiving certificates.
