PRIVATE BURSA BILFEN ANATOLIAN AND SCIENCE HIGH SCHOOL LEARNING ABOUT NATURE FIRSTHAND

On October 15, 2025, we connected what we learned in our biology lessons with real-life experiences through a meaningful field trip to the Bursa Zoo with our 9th-grade students. This trip was more than just a nature excursion, it aimed to strengthen our students’ observation and research skills while supporting meaningful scientific learning.

One of the most exciting parts of the visit was that each student selected two animals to research in depth. They explored their chosen animals’ habitats, feeding habits, reproduction, behavioral characteristics, and roles in nature. Through these studies, students not only improved their observation skills but also learned how to analyze and interpret information. In this way, the core biology concepts from the unit on “classification of living organisms” were reinforced through real-world examples.

At the Bursa Zoo, we had the opportunity to closely observe a wide variety of species, from tropical birds to large mammals, reptiles, and aquatic animals. These observations helped students connect theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience.

Through such field trips, our students discovered that biology is not just a subject confined to textbooks but the study of life itself. While developing their scientific thinking skills, they also took an important step toward becoming more environmentally aware and compassionate individuals.
