Bahçeşehir Bilfen High School Students Broaden Their Social Perspective with Edirne Cultural Trip

On Wednesday, May 14, our 10th-grade students had the opportunity to explore the historical and cultural heritage of Edirne as part of a cultural trip organized under the coordination of the Social Sciences Department. The trip began with a visit to one of Edirne’s geographical landmarks—the Historic Meriç Bridge. Students learned that this bridge, located over the Meriç River, is not only a means of transportation but also an architectural symbol reflecting the strategic importance of its era.The second stop was the Complex of Sultan Bayezid II, a multifaceted structure from the Ottoman period that served in various fields such as healthcare, education, and social welfare. The section known as the Darüşşifa (hospital) captivated students with details about historical medical practices, music therapy, and treatment through the sound of water, offering a rich learning experience both historically and socially. The final and most impressive stop of the trip was the Selimiye Mosque, one of the masterpieces of Ottoman architecture. Designed by the renowned architect Mimar Sinan, who described it as his "masterwork," the mosque left a deep architectural impression on the students. This meaningful trip contributed to students' understanding of the past through direct interaction with historical structures, allowed them to observe the functioning of social institutions, and helped them grasp the influence of geographical features on daily life.
