Private Izmir Bilfen Science and Anatolian High School 10th grade students had fun and learned in a historical and cultural place with a trip to Izmir Culture and Arts Factory on March 4-5. They gained historical and philosophical knowledge by examining the artifacts exhibited in the Archaeology and Ethnography museums. They had the opportunity to closely examine the Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine sculptures, ceramics, coins, Aegean Region local clothes, hand weavings and Ottoman period coins exhibited in the museum. Our students concretized what they learned in history lessons. The value of craft and handcrafted products in the factory was emphasized. The relationship between craftsmanship and changing technology and production styles from past to present was examined.
The introduction of gods such as Athena, Apollo and Eros, who are important figures of Greek mythology, gave our students a philosophical experience. We tried to increase their cultural awareness by introducing the values and thought structure of Ancient Greece. Through the stories of ancient Greek gods, students had the opportunity to discuss philosophical issues such as human nature, ethics and morality.
