COUNSELLING

Psychological counselling and guidance is the process of providing professional assistance to students in order to ensure that their needs are met appropriately so that they can maximize their competencies and abilities to the fullest; develop self-understanding so that they can adapt themselves to their communities at home, at school, and in society at large; develop self-regulation; ensure self-realization by making the right choices; and complete their social, psychological, and cognitive development in a healthy way.

At Bilfen Schools we adopt a developmental guidance approach. Our students are supported by the Psychological Counselling and Guidance Department to help them successfully attain the developmental targets at every stage of their life. For this purpose, parallel to the individual and group guidance activities that are held by the guidance teachers throughout the year, we place importance on keeping in contact and collaborating with all the parties that play an important role in students’ development.

Enneagram of Personality Model Activities
Personality Based Education and Counselling Approach is a personality anticipation system which explains how inherent personality type of students will shape their character and personality structure that can change and develop as a result of education and interaction with social environment. This approach guides educators in terms of the answers of "Which approach should be applied to which students and how?" for the sake of more effective current approach strategies employed in education.

Character and Values Education Based on Strengths
By use of various tools, we determine students’ inherent resources and we enable students to recognize and use those resources in their life. Consequently, it is expected for students’ life satisfaction, well-being, level of happiness, and academic achievement to increase; and for potential problems and negative thinking tendencies to decrease.

Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation is based on positive psychology. In psychoeducation activities we focus on students’ developing positive characteristics, developing positive experiences, and increase subjective well-being. In these activities, we aim to ensure that students exploit and develop their strengths and positive characteristics, uncover their resources, and focus on resources rather than risks and their strengths rather than weaknesses.

Thinking Skills Program
Designed on the basis of PASS Theory, the Thinking Skills Program aims to develop effective use of cognitive operation areas and thinking skills; and it provides opportunities for effective use of thinking skills in academic work. Within the implementation of the program, students can choose the appropriate cognitive behavior in social situations by creating smart solutions or can demonstrate the ability to generate a solution to an academic problem.

Creativity Activities
Creativity activities consist of home assignments in 1st to 5th Grades that aim to enable students to retrieve information from the memory fast and fluently whenever they need to, break the existing patterns of thought and think freely when solving a problem, produce unusual or different solutions to a problem, and elaborate and extend on a simple stimulus that is given.

Activities for Supporting Learning Performance
Such activities include the individual or group work that is conducted to determine the challenges that our students experience in their learning and help them increase their levels of academic achievement.

Educational Booklets and Publications
Brochures and books that target the characteristics and the needs of each grade level are published for our students and parents.
