PERSONALITY BASED EDUCATION
WHY A PERSONALITY BASED EDUCATION AND COUNSELLING MODEL?
Modern education understanding puts emphasis on the importance of such educational applications that can identify individual differences and reveal personal potentials of students in order to bring up happy, healthy, productive, compatible and socially beneficial individuals. Developed on the basis of the Enneagram of Personality Model, the Personality Based Education and Counselling approach makes it possible to identify individual differences and determine to adopt a suitable education and counselling approach for these differences on the basis of the concept of personality which is inherent, remains unchanged for life and defines the perception, motivation and points of view of an individual.
At this point, the Personality Based Education and Counselling approach claims that the most essential parameter identifying individual differences is the "type of personality which expresses the underlying reason of main purposes and behaviours of individuals in their lives and organizes the whole actual, emotional and cognitive structure and constitutes the alignment/keystone of personality". This approach allows us to determine "perceptional priorities of each student in life, their psychological needs, motivations, abilities, interests and tendencies as well as their risky characteristics that are open to negativity" with an approach which places the types of personality at the centre.
PROPERTIES OF THE PERSONALITY BASED EDUCATION AND COUNSELLING APPROACH
- The Personality Based Education and Counselling Approach is based on the concept of personality (character) which is colloquially expressed as "The child is father of the man" or "Old habits die hard" and remains unchanged for life.
- The Personality Based Education and Counselling Approach is a "personality anticipation system" which explains how inherent personality type of students shape their character and personality that can change and develop as a result of education and interaction with social environment.
- The Personality Based Education and Counselling Approach guides educators with respect to the answers of "Which approach must be applied to which students?" in order for the current approach strategies used in education to be more effective.
- The Personality Based Education and Counselling Approach also guides educators with respect to the organization of environmental conditions for the identification and discovery of students' individual potentials in a quick, precise and coherent manner on the basis of the type of personality.
- The Personality Based Education and Counselling Approach foresees any risks that might affect students' performances or lead to psychopathology and contributes to prevent such risks without they appear by means of offering suitable approach strategies to educators.
